Query: ePortfolio Policies

Could institutions provide samples of policies dealing with:  ownership, access, reporting, any legal liabilities, etc.  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. (2/09)

I know that at one time she did refer to the responsibilities regarding patient confidentiality in relation to students' work with patients.

Ownership, I believe is the key to so many of the other concerns about e-Portfolios. Many of the legal issues, as far as an institution is concerned, are avoided if the 'owner' is the student rather than the institution. Given that the institution should give students a copy of their AUP, the students, as adults, become responsible. This includes issues of IPR etc.

By making the e-Portfolio independent of any VLE and web accessible, it makes access a whole lot simpler. We know that students often work the strangest of hours and not necessarily in their own working environment. So, I suggest that the mantra for access is simply, 'Anywhere, Anytime, Anyhow.' (anyhow = any device)

Not sure what you mean by 'reporting' - is this to do with the MIS and providing information on say attendance, performance or capstone assessments etc? Or is it about formative assessments?

In terms of legal liabilities, much if not all of a true e-Portfolio should be capable of being password controlled as to what audiences see what and for how long. By using a well designed system there is no need to exhibit any material of a dubious nature - the audience only sees what the learner wants them to see.
